United Kingdom-based Auto Windscreens’ technicians Lloyd Cullen and Steve Abrahams have secured a trip to compete at Auto Glass Week™ 2016 in San Antonio, Texas, by taking home first and second place in the company’s AGRR competition held this month.
Steve Abrahams will vie for gold in The Pilkington Clear Advantage Auto Glass Technician Competition (AGTO).
The AGTO competition will be expanded into two categories—regular (10 technicians company-wide or less) and large businesses (more than 10 technicians company-wide.) A first place will be awarded for each category. Each champion will receive $5,000, a gold medal and trophy, as well as bragging rights as the “World’s Best Auto Glass Technician.” For second and third places, competitors from both categories will be pooled. The second- and third-place winners could represent either a regular or large automotive glass business. The second-place winner will take home $1,000 and a silver medal, and third place will receive $500 and a bronze medal.
Cullen will compete for gold in GlasWeld Windshield Repair Competition (WRO). The first-place winner for the WRO will receive the grand prize of $5,000, a gold medal and trophy, as well as bragging rights as the “World’s Best Windshield Repair Technician.” Second place will receive $1,000 as well as a silver medal, and the third-place winner will get $500 and a bronze medal.
Cullen was named the overall winner in the Auto Windscreens competition and Abrahams was awarded second place.
“It was a really challenging day, but I’m pleased to have won,” said Cullen. “I’m now looking forward to going to America and will be working closely with Tony Green [Auto Windscreens’ technical and innovation manager] and his team to make sure I’m 100 percent prepared for the event.”
Green added, “I’m excited to see how our guys perform on an international playing field and we are hopeful of clinching a medal position.”
Auto Glass Week will be held October 5-7 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter.
The registration deadline for competitors is August 5, and there is no onsite registration to compete. For more information on the event and to register, visit www.autoglassweek.com.
