Long-Time Industry Member, Thomas Reid Has Died

Thomas M. Reid, long-time auto glass professional passed away on February 29, 2020 at the age of 67. Reid died in his sleep in the presence of his family, according to Jerry Spears funeral home, located in Columbus, Ohio.

Reid spent more than two decades holding various positions at Safelite AutoGlass (Safelite), which included national account manager, director of field sales, and network operations director. Among his many accomplishments in the auto glass industry, he was recognized and was the recipient of the President’s club award due to volume of new business generated. He also received the Belron spirit award in 2013 along with a Safelite Wall of Fame recognition in 2017.

Reid was an active Meals on Wheels volunteer for the past 12 years and enjoyed traveling with his wife Patti. He was an avid sports fan and played golf and basketball. While he was studying at Marymount College in Salina, Kan., he also played basketball, and was known as a talented athlete, according to Jerry Spears funeral home’s obituary.

“Tom’s passing sadly marks the end for one of the industry’s highly respected professionals,” said Tom Feeney, Safelite president and CEO. “Tom’s passion for the auto glass industry was evident to those who knew and worked closely with him. With a gregarious personality and a zest for life, Tom’s contributions earned him the reputation throughout the industry as a caring individual with a thirst for understanding the needs of independent glass shops. For close to 30 years, he was a great source of knowledge, a well-respected associate and a terrific man. His contributions to our business left a lasting mark. On behalf of our Safelite family, we send our deepest sympathies to his family.”

He was preceded in death by his father, Gontran A. Reid, his mother, Ida M. Reid, and his first wife, Sue A. Reid. He is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Reid, his children, Anthony J. Reid (Gracie), Elizabeth A. Reid (Christopher Fritz), Katie C. Reid Cornish (Brandon) and Kristen M. Reid (Shawn McGorry), his grandchildren, Michael J. and Charles T. Reid-Fritz and Bennett “Bennie” L. Cornish, his siblings, Suji Reid Mullins and Dennis Reid (Carol).

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 5-8 pm, at Jerry Spears funeral home, located at 2693 West Broad St., Columbus.

The funeral mass will be held Friday, March 6, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, located at 1559 Roxbury Road (Marble Cliff). The burial will follow the mass at Dublin Cemetery.
