Black Friday: To Open or Not to Open?

Black Friday means the first day of Christmas shopping for consumers. But do auto glass shops follow the trend of being open the day after Thanksgiving?

“For 28 years, we have always been open,” says Rick Valentine, who owns Intermountain Auto Glass based in Boise, Idaho. This year, Valentine says his shops will be closed on Black Friday. Intermountain Auto Glass locations are open Mondays through Fridays.

Expert Auto Glass, with locations in North Dakota and Utah, is regularly open Mondays through Saturdays. For Black Friday and the Saturday after Thanksgiving, their shops will be closed this year. “I think it’s important for employees to be with their families,” says Expert Auto Glass owner Damien Butterfield.

“The Friday after Thanksgiving most are on-call for emergencies,” says Gary Hart, executive director of the Independent Glass Association. Hart communicates with shop owners and technicians across the country and says that the Saturday after Thanksgiving is “business as usual” for most shops.
