Nissan North America notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that approximately 1,934 replacement windshields installed in Nissan automobiles between April 2000 and April 2012 bore the incorrect manufacturer certification code.
The carmaker says in April 2000, the glass manufacturer, Central Glass Co., Ltd., outsourced glass production to a subsidiary company, Japan Tempered & Laminated Glass Co., Ltd. Instead of using its own certification mark “166,” the subsidiary used “44,” assigned to the parent company, Central Glass Co., on windshields in non-U.S. markets.
Nissan maintains that the part number remains accurate despite the manufacturer’s code mark discrepancy.
