Scrooge Visits Auto Glass Now on the Brink of Christmas

According to auto glass industry sources, Auto Glass Now has laid off about 375 employees nationwide.

Auto Glass Now owner Driven Brands remains silent about the job cuts, but an auto glass shop owner in Central Virginia who asked not to be identified did confirm at least three layoffs in his area, saying his brother-in-law and two friends in Richmond, Va., lost their jobs this week. The number of people affected is believed to be about 375.

According to an industry source, the reduction in force began last month with the elimination of 125 positions and continued this month with 250 more.

Karen Bariso, a customer service representative at AGN’s Newfoundland, N.J. shop, says she saw the writing on the wall several weeks ago. She accepted a job at another auto glass shop, giving AGN a month’s notice.

“I heard the evening before our calibration tech, one of the installers, and two trainees were getting laid off,” Bariso says. Returning to work the next day, she learned that she, too, was out of a job.

The shop, which once employed seven installers, trainees, and seven office staff, dropped to three installers and two. The shop also cut employee hours from 36 hours to 32.

Driven Brands, she says, alienated customers by implementing a centralized call center.

“When you have a reputation with your clientele over a long time, they don’t want to talk to a call center,” Bariso says. “They want to talk to the people that they know.”

Driven Brands acquired Auto Glass Now in January 2022 for $170 million, adding 75 locations to its stable of auto-related companies.

Driven Brands did not respond to our repeated requests for comment.

Driven – Into the Ground it sounds like. Sound’s like driven needs to get into one of it’s shop and get an alignment cause they are driving it right off a cliff.
