Cincinnati Auto Glass Shops Hit with Surge in Business Due to Car Break-ins

An auto theft spree that struck residents in a Cincinnati, Ohio, apartment complex created booming business for area auto glass shops.

According to WLWT 5 in Cincinnati, more than a dozen cars were broken into recently at area apartment complexes.

“My driver’s seat and my passenger’s seat were all covered in glass,” Vinny Bamonte says. “I’ve been finding glass shards all over. This entire window was actually on the ground.”

Jason Fassler, owner of Jack’s Glass, says the shop is trying to keep up with all the auto glass repairs.

“Every day, all day getting calls. ‘Hey, my car got broken into; I need new glass,’” Fassler says. “We used to average maybe one or two a week. Now we’re close to maybe 15 to 20.”

Last year, the shop did 600 more repairs than in the year before. However, the car break-ins continued to drive business to the shop in January.

“I’ve probably done 150, or 100, 150 car door glasses alone at the beginning of the year,” he says.

Police told Fassler that the thieves were looking for weapons. Not finding any, they move on to the next vehicle.
