Fuyao Glass America plans to invest $400 million in its Illinois manufacturing facility despite ongoing money laundering and labor exploitation investigations in Moraine, Ohio.
Multiple investor publications and Chinese news outlets report that Fuyao is expanding its manufacturing facility in Decatur, Illinois, and upgrading its equipment. Industrial Sales Leads (ISL) says it is the largest of the 13 new construction projects identified in April. According to ISL, Fuyao is seeking approval for the project.
The news comes as a central Fuyao Glass America plant was part of a July 2024 raid targeting a money laundering and labor exploitation scheme. Investigators say Fuyao made several payments over $126 million to LLCs formed by groups that allegedly smuggled illegal immigrants into the U.S. to work for several factories.
