Certain Tesla owners can now “subscribe” to a windshield protection plan. The electric vehicle manufacturer promises a free yearly windshield replacement as needed.
Tesla’s website says customers who purchase a new or used Tesla can register for the plan within 30 days on Tesla’s app. The plan offers unlimited windshield repairs in addition to one free replacement per year for “valid claims.” Any additional replacements would have a $100 deductible.
According to its website, Tesla’s new windshield protection plan offers one free windshield replacement per year and unlimited repairs for $12-23 per month.
According to the frequently asked questions (FAQ) portion of the webpage, the plan costs $12 a month for Tesla models 3 and Y, $15 for model and $23 for model X. The FAQ section doesn’t mention the Cybertruck, and it says, “If you do not see the option available, your vehicle may not be eligible for the Windshield Protection plan.” The webpage adds that only registered Tesla owners can subscribe to updates, like the windshield protection plan.
According to the site, the plan does not cover damage caused by tint, stickers or decals, vandalism, cosmetic damage, collision, commercial use “including carriage of passengers for hire,” racing or off-road driving, natural disasters, negligence, misuse, abuse or towing. Owners can transfer the plan to a new vehicle after selling their old Tesla, but the plan doesn’t cover damage occurring before they purchase the plan.
