General Motors recently delivered the first of its new, fully electric vehicle sedans to a customer. The Cadillac CELESTIQ, GM’s first full EV sedan, features Gauzy Ltd.’s suspended particle device (SPD) glass technology.
Gauzy is a global leader in light and vision control technologies. The CELESTIQ’s roof incorporates the company’s electronically dimmable SPD smart glass. Gauzy officials say the roof features one of the industry’s largest pieces of dimmable smart glass ever used in a production vehicle. The glass is divided into four independently controlled zones, allowing each passenger in the car to control the tint level in the glass roof.
Officials say Gauzy’s SPD technology switches in seconds to block up to 99.5% of visible light, 99% of harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays and 95% of infrared (IR) radiation, helping reduce HVAC consumption and increase the effective driving range of electric vehicles.
