A House of Representatives subcommittee has advanced the “ADAS Functionality and Integrity Act.”
Representative Diana Harshbarger (R, Tennessee) introduced the bipartisan bill in early December 2025. If enacted, the bill would require the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to work with relevant companies and organizations to create guidelines for vehicle models 2028 and later. The guidelines would help ensure ADAS and similar systems “maintain functionality” if the vehicle has any aftermarket repairs or modifications.
The House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade passed the bill to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, which then introduced it to the House on Dec. 12. The Specialty Equipment Market Association backs the bill.
