The auto glass plant featured in the documentary “An American Factory” may shut its doors if tariffs take too much of a toll, according to reports in Chinese media, but that doesn’t appear to be on the horizon yet.
“If we encounter unreasonable situations, we’ll simply shut down the [US] factories,” Fuyao Group founder and chairperson Cao Dewang said at the company’s annual meeting.
So far, tariffs have not appeared to hurt Fuyao’s U.S. operations, according to the South China Morning Post (SCMP). In fact, the publication reports that Fuyao Glass America’s net profits grew by almost 41% in 2025.
Fuyao Glass America has plants in Ohio, Illinois, Michigan and South Carolina. The Moraine, Ohio, location built a new coatings facility, which recently caught on fire. The factory burned for more than 13 hours before it was finally extinguished. Local media outlets and Fuyao officials report the fire did not significantly disrupt operations at the neighboring auto glass facility.
