Independence Day fireworks shenanigans are notorious for injuring people and damaging private property. America’s 250th anniversary celebration was no exception, and many car owners reported broken glass.
A Salem, Oregon, news publication reported that an explosion involving illegal fireworks shot debris more than 200 feet away, sending five people to the hospital and damaging at least six cars. The owner of one of those vehicles told the news outlet that the fireworks “just kind of shattered [his] whole back windshield” and damaged his tailgate.
People in other parts of the country also took to social media to express their frustration over shattered glass. One Gary, Indiana, resident posted a video to Facebook of a hole in her back glass, saying, “these [people] busted my window popping fireworks.”
“Now I gotta get a new window with money I don’t have,” she added in the caption.
Elsewhere, a TikTok user posted a doorbell camera video of his mother’s car. The video shows an explosion in the background, followed by a burst of smoke as a projectile hits the vehicle’s windshield.
“I replaced my mom’s windshield a few weeks back, and on the Fourth of July, the neighbor bullseye’d it with fireworks,” the poster wrote.
