PGW Auto Glass recently eliminated the positions of nearly 60 people, a now-former PGW employee tells glassBYTEs. The employee prefers not to have his name released.
The ex-employee worked at PGW’s headquarters in Cranberry, Pennsylvania.
“I was called into a meeting with the new head of human resources (HR) on Tuesday [June 23] and told that my position had been eliminated as part of a round of economic layoffs,” the ex-employee says. “Then, I was literally handed a box so I could pack up my desk and leave right away.”
“I was completely blindsided,” the ex-employee adds. “[Then] I saw an article announcing that PGW had acquired Windshield Surgeons the next day [June 24].”
“How can they take out a loan [to buy a company] while telling me they can’t afford me [and about 58 other employees] economically?” the person asked.
Some of the paperwork the source received during termination included a list of other positions that had been eliminated as part of a mandatory Age Discrimination in Employment Act disclosure. The ex-employee shared this list with glassBYTEs. It says approximately 58 people were let go, including:
- 18 delivery drivers who also worked in warehouses;
- 15 non-delivery driver warehouse workers, including supervisors and managers;
- Nine customer service representatives;
- Three delivery drivers; and
- One each of the following: calibration technician, maintenance technician, outside sales representative, procurement coordinator, product manager, quality control technician, site manager, site supervisor, software engineer for IT, timekeeper and human resources services provider, senior payroll manager and treasury analyst – 16 employees total.
As of press time, PGW has not responded to glassBYTEs about the layoffs.
Safelite and the insurance industry is to blame. The insurance companies force clients to Safelite which takes sales away from places like PGW and it effects independent shops at the same time. Until publications like this and others start sticking up for the small guys and stop pandering to Safelite nothing will change
I disagree with this statement because PGW sells a lot of glass to safelite.
PGW has gone downhill ever since they brought in people with zero knowledge of the AGR business.
They seem to be focused on going into retail, not only in Canada, but also into the U.S.
They could care less about customers, nor their own people. Sad.
