Safelite Wants Out of State Farm, LYNX Lawsuit

Safelite has moved to dismiss all counts against it in a lawsuit with LYNX Services, arguing that the amended complaint did not strengthen the validity of LYNX’s claims.

LYNX filed suit against Safelite Group, its subsidiary Safelite Solutions and State Farm in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois on July 27, 2025. It alleged that the insurer and rival TPA misappropriated certain trade secrets from LYNX’s METRYX system. After more than a year of litigation, LYNX filed a first amended complaint on July 14.

Safelite moved to dismiss the counts against it in on Aug. 3. LYNX alleges that Safelite and State Farm violated several state laws by misappropriating trade secrets. Safelite’s latest motion to dismiss echoes the motion it filed after the original complaint.

“LYNX has now amended its complaint but has not improved it,” the motion to dismiss claims.

The filing reiterates the main claims that both Safelite and State Farm have made since the beginning of the case:

  • State Farm claims to own the alleged misappropriated trade secrets, and
  • The information in question does not qualify as a trade secret because it is allegedly public information.

The filing also claims that, if misappropriation did occur, Safelite had no hand in it.

“Even if LYNX could plead ownership and trade secrecy of the asserted ‘trade secrets,’

LYNX’s trade secret claims against Safelite independently fail because LYNX does not plausibly allege that Safelite, a mere third-party recipient, misappropriated [the information],” the filing says.

According to Safelite, the law states that a trade secret can be considered misappropriated if a party acquired it without permission, disclosed it or used by someone who knows it was improperly acquired. Safelite argues that LYNX has not provided evidence that Safelite did any of these things.

“LYNX acknowledges that any LYNX information at issue would have come to Safelite via State Farm and offers no non-conclusory allegations of how Safelite knew or had any reason to know that such information was a LYNX trade secret,” the motion says.

Safelite also claims that all of LYNX’s allegations apply to Safelite Solutions, not Safelite Group, so Safelite Group should be dropped from the suit.

Safelite asked the court to dismiss all charges against it with prejudice and to dismiss Safelite Group from the lawsuit entirely. As of press time, the court has not responded to the motion.

Shame on Safelite and there corrupt ways. Working as the gatekeeper for 412 ins companies. Both safelite & the insurance companies are corrupt in these agreements. WAKE up everyone
we now have AI. Insurance companies can easily manage there own claims but hide behind the network that controls pricing & steers the business. ( IE) nags another joke. Costs have gone up 70% on glass last 5 years. Nags has gone up like 8-10%. Why cant independant shops bill like safelite does? GAI Guaranteed actual invoice. They know there costs & set a decent markup not having to deal with this made up, fake NAGS list price.

I closed up shop in February along with 3 others local to me that closed in January.
We all tried to keep up but the lies and deception of Slavelite just get’s people in the door and closes out so many other shops..

In the state of Oregon, they have been steering the insured for so long, everyone is afraid to go to another shop because the insurance didn’t suggest it.

When they go make a claim, Slavelite tells them they must use SL or they will pay a higher deductible.

Insurance companies are allowing this behavior and actually, some are condoning it. Good luck, I’m still licking my wounds, 4 months of depression and still paying daily!
