Northeast Glass Shops Power Through in Aftermath of Blizzard

Glass shops in the Northeast are recovering this week after a major blizzard, known as "Winter Storm Nemo," piled up to three feet of snow on areas from New York to Maine. While some shop representatives say it's business as usual, despite the record snowfall, others are adapting amid the aftermath of the storm.

"It hurts our outside work, but we've been busy with auto glass and we're still doing inside work," says Ralph Zepke, owner of Country Glass in East Longmeadow, Mass.

For Andy Reardon, president of A&R Glass in Southwick, Mass., where about 30 inches of snow fell, it's business as usual.

"We're getting some work done," he says. " … The key is to be smarter than the weather. You've got to know to order your parts in advance and know your distributors won't be delivering."

Wayne Palmer, owner of Mobile Glass works in Ashaway, R.I., says they just have "a lot of snow."

"We've got a lot of work to do," he says, " … but the roads are clear, [and] the power's back on."

David Lavigne, CSR for Granite State Glass in Hudson, N.H., agreed.

"[We haven't seen any effects] besides a lot of snow," he says. "We're still able to get out."

And in Morrisville, Vt., where approximately a foot of snow is on the ground, a representative of Ace Glass & Windows Inc., says this wasn't enough to affect business.

"We only got about a foot up here, that's customary for us," he says.
