The Walt Gorman Memorial Windshield Repair Olympics (WRO) originally were founded three years ago. Rich DiMassa of Dents Out Plus in Torrance, Calif., competed in that 2006 competition; and this year, three years later, he'll return to the 2008 event.
For DiMassa, who took second place in last year's competition, the WRO is a mental game; his key piece of advice for fellow competitors is to be mentally prepared. "Just like when you're out in the real world, you've got to be focused," he says. "If you're not focused, you might as well not go to work that day. You wouldn't want someone doing an operation on you when they're thinking about their marriage or their kids, and it's the same with our profession. You've got to set all that aside." DiMassa has been in the industry for 16 years. A father of three, he enjoys fishing, bowling and spending time with his family in his spare time. The WRO will be held November 6 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. The event is held as part of Auto Glass Week in Las Vegas, in conjunction with the Auto Glass Expo at NACE, the International Auto Glass Safety (AGRSS) Conference, the IGA's Fall Marketing Conference, the National Windshield Repair Association's (NWRA) Annual Conference, and the Fourth Annual Auto Glass Technician Olympics (AGTO). The WRO is co-sponsored by AGRR magazine/glassBYTEs.com and the NWRA. Corporate sponsors include platinum sponsor GlasWeld, emerald sponsor Glass Medic and sapphire sponsor Glazex.
