Senate
Passes Bill Regarding Power Windows; Safety Groups Urge Continued Focus
on Issue
Several auto safety
groups, such as the National Center for Auto Safety and Kids in Cars,
are attempting to draw attention to the issue of power window safety.
The media attention, including a story posted today on NBC10.com in Philadelphia,
follows a bill passed in the Senate last week that mandates that the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration begin tracking power window injuries
and work toward legislation that requires auto manufacturers to install
safety switches in the windows.
According to the article, the safety switches would be harder for children
to hit by accident and would force the windows to stop moving automatically
when something blocks their way.
