Solutia Automotive's Auto Glass Interlayers Surround Ford Super Chief Concept The Ford Super Chief concept vehicle was introduced at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) on Jan. 8, 2006. One of the unique features of the concept is the colored, laminated glass that surrounds the cabin and is featured in the panoramic laminated glass roof. The interlayer that gives the glass its unique coloring was provided by Solutia Automotive, leading producer of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer products for laminated glass used by the automotive industry. "The size and look of the greenhouse captures the look of the famous Super Chief train, with its high belt line and horizontally oriented windows," said Jay Pyper, North American market development director for Solutia. "We were pleased to provide the glass interlayer that met the color specifications of the vehicle designers in creating this powerful design statement." Solutia currently holds 45 percent of the global market for PVB interlayers used in laminated glass windshields, according to the company. While laminated glass has been in use for some 60 years, it is only recently that interlayer manufacturers have been able to go beyond its use in windshields. |
