PPG, Visteon Only Glass Manufacturers on Fortune 500 List
of Largest U.S. Corp.; Topped by Insurance Companies
Visteon ranked number 128 and PPG Industries number 232 on the 2006 Fortune
500 list of largest U.S. corporations. Three insurance companies ranked
in the top 100.
Of those companies relating to the auto glass industry to make the list,
State Farm ranked highest at number 22 (down from 19 on last year's list),
Dow Chemical was ranked 36 (down from 34), Allstate Insurance came in
at 58 (down from 51), Hartford Financial Services at 78 (down from 71),
AETNA rose to 91 (from 108 last year) and Liberty Mutual was at 102, also
rising from it's spot at 111 last year.
The list, which is published yearly by Fortune magazine, is tabulated
according to the company's revenue the year previous and compares information
including profits, assets, stockholder equity and market value, among
other things.
State Farm's spot at 22 was secured with just under $60 billion in revenue
and a little more than $3 billion in profit, a decrease of 38.9 percent
from 2004 to 2005. Compare that to PPG's 2005 revenue, which was slightly
more than $10 billion, with close to $600 million in profit. Visteon clocked
in nearly $17 billion in revenue, though it suffered a profit loss of
$270 million, thus also earning a spot on the magazine's Money Losers
list.
