Auto Glass Technician Olympics Joins NACE 2006 The second annual Auto Glass Technician Olympics will be held during the International Autobody Congress and Exposition (NACE) November 1-3, 2006, in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. "This opportunity was such a ideal fit for both the auto glass and collision repair industries to learn from one another that we felt it wise to take advantage of the kind offer from NACE to locate the Olympics there," said Debra Levy, publisher of AGRR magazine, the event manager. "It is the only such competition in America where contestants compete in a true competitive environment," she added. Contestants will gather November 1, 2006, with a mandatory meeting and welcoming cocktail party followed by a demonstration installation by 2005 gold medalist Jeff Olive. On Thursday, November 2, the competition will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the first two sections covering Customer Interaction and Technician Comportment followed by the first round of installation heats from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on the NACE show floor in the Auto Glass Expo. The competition will wrap up on Friday, November 3, with the four finalists removing and installing a backlite on their vehicles. The awards ceremony will follow and announce the "World's Best Auto Glass Technician." As an added bonus, organizers have arranged that all registered spectators and contestants will receive admission to the NACE show floor complimentary. Co-sponsored by AGRR magazine and the Independent Glass Association (IGA), the Auto Glass Technician Olympics was established in 2005 to provide a forum in which auto glass technicians could come together in an educational setting with the climatic high of a $5,000 prize awarded to the first place winner for the highest level of quality in the industry.
