The New York Times has reported that DaimlerChrysler AG is in talks with one of its Chinese partners to build a plant in China to make subcompact cars to export to the United States. According to the report, the car will be a small sedan, roughly the size of the Chevrolet Aveo. The article said that there is no forecast of the production schedule, but it would take at least two years to get a plant up and running. It also states that wages and benefits cost the automaker 38 euros an hour in Germany, 28 euros an hour in the U.S., and 1.5 euros an hour in China. |
