Diamond Triumph Auto Glass Inc., acquired the assets of the 19 Settles Glass Cos., Inc. retail operations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire last Friday. Both companies were founded in 1923. Diamond Triumph is headquartered in Kingston, Pa., and Settles glass is headquartered in Quincy, Mass. Richard Settles, the third generation to head the company, had been president of the family owned business. "It just seemed like the time to do this," he told glassBYTEs. "I'm going to continue on with Auto Glass Wholesale Inc. (AGW), our distribution business," he stated. His stepson, Bob D'Orval, is vice president of AGW. AGW, an auto and flat glass distributor which has always operated under the umbrella of Settles Glass, was not part of the acquisition and continues as an independently owned business. Its two warehouses are located in Randolph and Lawrence, Mass. Settles is a member of the Chicago Auto Glass Group, which is currently working on an alternative pricing model for the AGR industry. He said that at least for some time the Settles Glass locations will operate under that name. |
