DOW AUTOMOTIVE ASKS: ARE YOU READY FOR THE AUTO GLASS OLYMPICS?

Auburn Hills, Mich., September 19, 2006 - With the second annual Auto Glass Technician Olympics right around the corner, Dow Automotive Technical Manager, Aftermarket, Dale Malcolm wants to make sure every entrant is prepared with the most up-to-date training and certification - and that everybody else is fired up to see this exciting and educational event.

Sponsored by AGRR Magazine, the Independent Glass Association, and 13 supporting sponsor companies, the competition will be held November 1-3 during the International Autobody Congress & Exposition at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

"This competition is a great way for the industry to emphasize the importance of training and professionalism," Malcolm said. "Competitors earn points for up-to-date training and certification, and it isn't too late for those using Dow Automotive products to contact us for last-minute training."

Malcolm said entrants can contact their Dow Automotive representative or the Dayton, Ohio, office at 1-800-453-3779 to make arrangements for the refresher training program that has brought 16,000 technicians up to date since 1999.

"AGRR and IGA did a great job of organizing this event last year. It was a first-time event, and they hit a home run," Malcolm said. He praised the Olympics' concept, which emphasizes quality and professionalism over speed. Judging is based on 84 items worth 110 points. Speed is only considered as a tiebreaker.

Entrants are allowed to choose the adhesives, primers and other products and tools they want to use. Malcolm said a big part of his role is to make sure Olympians who choose Dow Automotive products have everything they need on hand at the competition.

Malcolm noted that the top four finishers in 2005 all chose Dow Automotive products.

Competition takes place on the convention floor November 2 (preliminary heats) and 3 (finals and awards). "I'd urge every installer at the show to stop by and see this competition in progress. I guarantee you'll learn something you can take home and use."
