Chicago-based Engineered Glass Products (EGP) has announced its latest patent, for an improved watercraft windshield. EGP says the new design is intended to improve the function, safety and appearance of curved glass and plastic windshield assemblies.

The new windshield's molded, flexible polymeric frame creates a substantially continuous framework around each panel of the windshield, designed to increase the structural strength of the curved glass or plastic. The lower portion of the frame is capable of conforming to the shape of the upper surface of a watercraft's hull, reducing stress on the panel and the frame and creating a watertight seal. In addition, with a polymeric frame sharp edges are eliminated, while the flexibility of the material absorbs impacts.
