GEMS Continues; McCormick Advises Attendees to “Never Be Average”

Glass Expo Midwest™ opens today in Grand Rapids, Mich., at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel & DeVos Place. Today, former NBA player Tim McCormick of ESPN, who grew up close by in Clarkston, Mich., provided a motivational message that focused on the belief that NBA stands for “Never Be Average.” He explained to attendees how he learned that success is available to everyone who is willing to commit to excellence during his ten years in the NBA.

The event runs today and tomorrow and is co-sponsored by the Michigan Glass Association, Detroit Glass Dealers Association, the Ohio, Minnesota, Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin Glass Associations, the Illinois Glazing Association, the Association of Glazing Contractors, glassBYTEs.com™/AGRR magazine, USGNN.com/USGlass magazine, Window Film magazine, DWM magazine and Shelter magazine.

McCormick spent ten seasons in the NBA as a player. He was drafted by Cleveland with the #12 pick in the 1984 draft and was traded to Washington and then Seattle. He also played for the Seattle Supersonics, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks.

In addition, McCormick has worked for the National Basketball Players Association for the last 11 years as the regional director of Player Programs. He also runs the NBA Players Association’s TOP 100 Basketball Camp for the elite 100 high school players in the nation.

Currently, McCormick provides color analysis as a broadcaster for ESPN and ABC College Basketball. He is currently in his eleventh year of broadcasting. He has also worked extensively for ESPN Regional and ESPN International and is the weekly college basketball insider on sports radio 1130 WDFN and ESPN radio on a national level.

Glass Expo Midwest '07 opened with a dedication to Chris Haller of C.A. Haller & Company who passed away earlier this year. Here, Mrs. Haller cuts the opening ribbon with USGlass columnist Lyle Hill of MTH Industries, while two of Haller's granddaughters assist. Tall Tales: Keynote speaker former NBA basketball player and ESPN commentator Tim McCormick regaled the crowds with stories from his playing days. McCormick's presentation equated basketball to business by extolling the audience to "Never Be Average. Attendees chose from 12 seminars in four different tracks today. The event continues with more seminars and the Expo tomorrow.
