Ontario Edges Michigan as Top Vehicle Producer

Ontario, Canada has edged Michigan as the top vehicle producing state or province in 2004, according to an article in Ward's Autoworld. Using data from the first 10 months of the year and its own estimations for the final two months, the magazine predicts that Ontario will end 2004 with a total vehicle production of 2.70 million, while Michigan is expected to tally 2.61 million.

Despite the prediction, Michigan still outpaces the next closest U.S.-competitor, Ohio. Ward's doesn't see the Ontario domination becoming a permanent change in the industry, citing Michigan's substantial production capacity, but it does note that the demand for the different products manufactured will play a significant factor in production leadership.
