Safelite Discontinues Manufacturing in Wichita

Safelite has discontinued windshield manufacturing operations at its Wichita, Kan., facility effective today, April 28th.

"We have consolidated our windshield manufacturing operations in Enfield, N.C.," said a spokesman for the Columbus, Ohio based company. "There are no changes to our retail or warehouse operations in Wichita."

The company said that it was a supply chain decision. "Like all the windshield producers, we have looked at the situation and have to get the right mix of manufactured and acquired product," the spokesman added.

The company will still be producing more than 850 different models. A total of 70 percent of its 1.8 million windshields were produced in the North Carolina facility, and the company is moving some parts there to raise the capacity. However, according to the spokesman, it will be buying more product.
