Independent Glass Distributors of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has joined the growing list of companies adding a fuel surcharge to the cost of business. In a letter to customers from company vice president John Venteicher, the company has announced that its delivery fuel surcharge fee (DFSF) will begin on October 17, 2005. The company's DFSF mirrors that of PPG, which was the first company to announce an additional charge last week. PPG's fuel surcharge goes into effect on October 13. According to the Venteicher letter, Independent Glass Distributors based the DFSF on the prior month's average cost per gallon for regular grade fuel as determined by the Department of Energy and will be non-refundable. The letter also states that all "will-call" orders will be exempt from the surcharge. |
