From Blacksmith to Robot

Curvlite/Viracon opened its manufacturing facility in Owatonna, Minn., to National Windshield Repair Association (NWRA) meeting attendees yesterday, and the visitors were able to tour the after-market production plant with its range from blacksmith (the man using his hammer to make part of the press bending mold) to robot (the machine unloading the finished units at the end of the line).

In between walking through the large plant, the visitors saw each stage of the manufacturing process. The tour was sponsored by Glass Doctor under the supervision of Thom Inman.

The facility's main output is for the RV and bus markets as well as vehicles. It produces about 3,000 units a day for these three product lines.
